On foot?

Yes, perfectly walkable

The compacted gravel surface is very comfortable to walk on and the 1.5 % gradient is barely noticeable. No steps, ropes, ledges or technical difficulty — it's a greenway built on the old mining railway route.

With a stroller

Yes, you can do it on foot with a stroller — but only all-terrain ones. Small-wheel urban strollers get stuck on the gravel surface.

  • Wheels ≥ 30 cm diameter
  • Suspension on at least 2 wheels
  • Total loaded weight ≤ 30 kg

30 cm wheels with suspension on all 4. Holds steady on loose ground without bouncing.

Thule Urban Glide 2

Fixed front wheel, all-terrain. Stable on gravel and loose stones.

Mountain Buggy Terrain

Pneumatic 30 cm wheels, off-road. Built for exactly this kind of surface.

3-wheel joggers

Any jogger with pneumatic wheels ≥ 30 cm and suspension works.

These struggle

Urban strollers

  • Light urban strollers with small hard wheels
  • Strollers with a single small front wheel
  • Folding travel umbrella strollers

When in doubt, check the wheel: if it's hard plastic or under 25 cm, better stick to the Buyera → Enclosure section (800 m, partly paved).

1.

How long does it take to walk the Bear Trail?

The full Entrago → Tuñón route (22 km downhill) takes 5-6 h with stops. The short section Proaza → Molina's enclosure → Proaza (5 km) in 1.5 h. You have 4 short sections to choose from, from 2 km (25 min) up to the full 22 km.

2.

Can you go with a stroller?

Yes, with an all-terrain stroller with big wheels (≥ 30 cm with suspension). Small-wheel urban strollers suffer on the gravel. Recommended section: Proaza → Enclosure → Proaza (5 km), perfect for a sports stroller.

3.

Is there a return bus if I do the full route?

Yes. Autos Bimenes (Pullmans Llaneza) runs a regular line from Oviedo with stops in Entrago, Caranga, Proaza and Tuñón. Combine outbound bus + downhill walk + next bus back. Check timetables in advance as it doesn't run every hour.

4.

Can I bring my dog walking?

Yes, always on a lead. There are water fountains in Entrago, Proaza, Buyera and Tuñón. You can't enter Molina's enclosure with a dog because it's a protected wildlife area. More detail on what to bring and how to handle livestock mastiffs on the with dog page.

5.

Which section is best on foot if I only have a morning?

Proaza → Enclosure → Proaza (5 km · 1.5 h). Park in the centre of Proaza (20 spaces), see Molina at the viewpoint, have lunch in the village and return to the car. Fits perfectly in 4-5 free hours and it's the family favourite.

6.

Do I need to book anything to walk it?

No. The trail is public and free year-round, no tickets or booking. You just need to get there (by car or bus) and park at the start points (Entrago, Proaza, Tuñón, Buyera).

Next time

What if we do it by bike?

When you finish walking and see how easy it is, you might want to come back another day by bike to cover more ground with less effort. 18 km downhill Entrago → Buyera in 2 h, return transfer included (no uphill pedalling), from €25 for adults and €22 for kids' bikes.
