How to get to the Bear Trail by car, bus, train or bike

It lies in central Asturias (Teverga, Proaza, Santo Adriano and Quirós). Three start points, four main starting cities. Here is how to get there depending on where you come from.

The trail has three official start points. Entrago is the most used for the downhill bike ride — our shop is right there.

July-August, May and December long weekends, and Easter: car parks fill up before 10:00. Arrive early or catch the first morning bus.

Take the A-63 towards Grado. Exit 9 to Trubia. Continue on the AS-228 towards Puerto Ventana. Go through Caranga de Abajo (junction with the AS-229 to Quirós) and carry on 7 km to Entrago (Teverga). For Tuñón: exit at Trubia and stay on the AS-228 for just 7 km.

Take the A-8 towards Oviedo, then the A-66 until it links with the A-63 (towards Grado). From there, the same as from Oviedo. Practically all motorway.

Take the AP-66 (Huerna motorway), exit at Villablino / Caldas de Luna towards Puerto Ventana on the CL-626 / AS-228. The entrance to Teverga is via Puerto Ventana, with spectacular views.

Take the AS-265 towards Puerto de San Lorenzo. Cross the pass and continue on to Teverga. You arrive straight at Entrago with no detours.

Public transport

By bus or train

There is a regular bus service from Oviedo. By train you only get as far as Trubia (25 km short) — not the most practical option.

RENFE train

Does not run direct

The closest station is Trubia (Oviedo-Xixón-Santander line), 25 km from the Entrago start. From Trubia you need a bus or taxi.

Best option: come by train to Oviedo and carry on with a Pullmans Llaneza bus from the central station.

By bike from Oviedo

The most cyclist-friendly way to get there. 2.5-3 h at a relaxed pace, almost all on flat greenway.

    Leave Oviedo RENFE station

    By bike or take it on the train. A classic starting point for cyclists.

  2. 02

    Parque de Invierno + Vía Verde del Fuso

    Enter Parque de Invierno and follow the Vía Verde del Fuso, practically flat.

    Corredor Verde del Nora

    Continue on the Corredor Verde del Nora towards Trubia.

  4. 04

    From Trubia to Tuñón

    From Trubia, take the AS-228 for 6 km to Tuñón. That is the section with traffic.

  5. 05

    You join the Bear Trail

    In Tuñón you join the main trunk. You are on the trail.

Extra for cyclists

You add roughly 10 km before you even hit the trail itself. To skip those, take the direct bus from Oviedo to Entrago.

How long does it take by car from Oviedo?

40-45 minutes to Entrago via the A-63 and the AS-228. From Xixón, 1 h. From León, 1 h 15 min via the AP-66 (Huerna). From Somiedo, 50 min via Puerto de San Lorenzo.

Is there a bus from Oviedo?

Yes. Autos Bimenes (Pullmans Llaneza) runs a regular service from Oviedo Bus Station to Entrago with stops in Tuñón, Proaza and Caranga. Check timetables before travelling.

Is there free parking?

Yes, at the three start points (Entrago, Tuñón, Proaza) all car parks are free of charge, no tickets or time limits. Together they offer more than 120 spaces. In high season they fill up before 10:00 — arrive early.

Can you come by train?

Not directly. The nearest RENFE station is Trubia, 25 km from the start. From Trubia you need a bus or a taxi. More practical: take the train to Oviedo and continue with the Pullmans Llaneza bus.

How long does it take from Madrid?

Around 5-6 hours by car on the A-66 (Ruta de la Plata motorway) + AP-66 (Huerna) to Oviedo, and from there 45 min on the A-63. By direct ALSA bus Madrid-Oviedo, then the local bus.

Can you do the trail with bus out and bike back?

Yes, it is a very common combo: bus Oviedo → Entrago, downhill ride on the trail to Tuñón (22 km), then the bus back Tuñón → Oviedo. If you rent with us, we include a return transfer from Buyera in the price, which makes it even simpler.
