The bears

Molina's enclosure

Halfway along, in Proaza, sits the enclosure of the Fundación Oso de Asturias. Molina, a Cantabrian brown bear, lives in semi-freedom and can be watched from a free viewpoint right on the trail.

Best time to see her active: 9:00-11:00 or 17:00-19:00.

  • Thule Urban Glide 2

  • Mountain Buggy Terrain

Typical worries

What parents ask us

The 5 most common worries of first-time mums and dads on the trail. We've heard them a thousand times — here are the real answers.

01

What if my child gets tired on the bike?

The route is downhill and costs little effort. Plus you have plenty of time — we're open from 9:30 to 18:00, so you can make all the stops you want (see Molina, snack in Proaza, play on the bridges) and move at the kids' pace. No rush.

02

What if it rains?

The trailers have a hood. The forest gives shade and cover. The tunnels (30+) are natural shelters. If the forecast is bad, you cancel free up to 24 h before and we reschedule for the day that fits best.

03

And the bears?

Molina lives in a closed enclosure, with electric fencing and 24/7 monitoring by the Fundación Oso. Visitors watch from a raised viewpoint 30-100 m away. It's 100% safe.

04

What if I get a flat tyre?

You call us and we come. We bring tools and a spare wheel. We're about 10 km away by van from the furthest point.

05

Are there cars on the trail?

It's a greenway exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists. There are a few crossings with minor roads, all properly signposted with cycle crossings and stop signs on both sides. Teach the kids to stop at each crossing and look both ways — they're safe and quiet, but better safe than sorry.

Family on bikes on the Bear Trail

Need help?

+34 644 199 430
1.

From what age can you ride the Bear Trail with kids?

From babies of 8-9 months with a baby seat (when the baby holds their head steady). From 1 year in a child trailer. From 4 years on a tagalong. From 5-6 years on their own bike. The recommended route (Entrago → Buyera, 18 km downhill) works equally well at any age.

2.

How long does it take with young children?

By bike, 2.5-3 hours with stops to see Molina, snack and rest. On foot with a stroller, a short 6-7 km section in 1.5-2 h. You can set off at 10:00 and be back at 14:00 for lunch.

3.

What kids' kit do you have?

Baby seats (€14), child trailers for 1-2 kids (€22), tagalongs (€22) and kids' bikes in sizes 16", 20" and 24" (€22 up to 8 years · €25 from 9). All include a kid-size helmet.

4.

Can you see the bears with kids?

Yes. The Proaza bear enclosure has a free viewpoint right on the trail with safe fencing. Molina lives in semi-freedom and can be watched from 30-100 m. Best time to see her active: first thing in the morning or late afternoon.

5.

What should we pack with kids?

Water, snacks, light rain jacket, sunscreen (May-September), cap, nappies if needed, wet wipes. We give you a printed map. Everything else (helmet, insurance) is already included in the rental.

6.

Can you do it with a stroller?

Yes, but with an all-terrain stroller with big puncture-resistant wheels. Urban strollers suffer on the gravel surface. Recommended section: Buyera → Proaza → Tuñón (6-7 km), done in 1.5-2 h at family pace.

7.

Is there a discount for multiple kids?

We don't apply family discounts — each child pays their rate according to their kit. We only make tailored quotes with volume discounts for organised groups (20+ people: schools, companies, stag and hen dos). For groups, call us and we reply the same day.
